Junior Division (15-19 year olds)
The Junior Division Winner of the Ocean to Art Challenge bursts with fresh imagination and fearless expression, capturing the ocean through a lens of curiosity, emotion, and wonder.
Naimat Lukman's winning photograph serves as a profound wake-up call, stripping away the abstract of marine pollution and showing us the reality of our coastlines.
"Taken at the water’s edge, the image shows that the problem is not distant—it is already here, on our shores.
Tide of Trash captures how plastic waste and everyday debris are overtaking the natural world, flowing back like a relentless tide shaped by human carelessness. Beyond what is visible, this pollution breaks down into microplastics, entering the food chain and threatening marine life and human health. Senior Division (20-25 year olds)

"In HOPE, figures weave together my personal narrative while reflecting themes of cultural resilience, skillful connection, and faithful possibility. The flowing, vortex-like form speaks to adaptation and strength in heritage, merging past and present in a continuous movement of transformation. Outstretched arms symbolize collaboration, growth, and aspiration, while subtle white hands suggest intuition and unseen guidance shaping creation. As the figures gaze toward a sky of light and stars, the work extends beyond the personal to the planet—inviting reflection on our shared responsibility to protect the oceans, preserve fragile ecosystems, and act with hope and care for the natural world that sustains us." "The future of our oceans lies in our hands. Every choice we make, no matter how small, affects the vast waters that sustain life on Earth. Oceans provide food, regulate the climate, and support millions of species, yet they are increasingly threatened by pollution, overfishing, and climate change. Plastic waste fills the seas, harming marine animals, while rising temperatures destroy coral reefs and fragile ecosystems.
However, there is still hope. By reducing our use of plastics, protecting marine habitats, and making more environmentally conscious decisions, we can help restore and preserve ocean life. Education and awareness also play a key role in inspiring others to take action.
